Steel buildings are very popular now due to its many different benefits and aesthetic values. Here are our top tips you should know about finishing your steel building interior.
Insulate the interiors
Insulating your steel building will help keep the interior temperature comfortable and prevent condensation due to humidity. Condensation could lead to rusting of the steel building. There are many materials available to insulate your steel building such as fiberglass, spray foam and foam board. Fiberglass remains the most popular choice for steel building insulation in terms of effectiveness and affordability. Its non-absorbent nature protects your building from mold and rust.
Fire-proofing
One of the main characteristics of steel which makes it stand out from other popular building materials is its reduced flammability. But that doesn’t mean it is completely immune to fire.It is important that you apply fire-resistant primers and coatings to your steel building in accordance with the local regulations and rules.
There are various ways of fire-protection such as using vermiculite sprays, board encasement systems, intumescent coating systems etc. It is generally recommended that the coating used for fireproofing steel should protect the metal at a temperature around 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Exposed/Finished interior walls
If you want a more modern look for the interiors, you could choose to leave the steel structures exposed. You could further customise it by choosing the color and finish you want.
If you want a more traditional look for the interiors, you can easily finish metal framed walls with drywall or other materials such as plywood, weatherboard etc. Before finishing off the walls, make sure that all the wiring and plumbing devices are properly installed and inspected.
Exposed/Finished ceilings
As in the case of exposed interior walls, exposed steel ceiling could provide more aesthetic benefits. It can give a greater sense of space and open area which you may not get with the traditional ceilings. These high ceilings can also save you money in many cases. This look is very popular in many commercial spaces.
If you want a finished ceiling, you can cover your steel beams with a traditional dropped ceiling.
